Portability

Berkeley Welcomes Incoming Portable Contracts.  The Berkeley Housing Authority is receiving families with Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers wishing to transfer to the City of Berkeley.

 BHA IS absorbing incoming vouchers effective February 12, 2019.  

Transferring In

  • Families are seen by appointment only on the following days:

    • Tuesday 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM

    • Wednesday 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM

  • All adult household members (18 years and older) must come into the office before the voucher is issued.

  • To make an appointment, please call (510) 981-5484

Required Documents

  • We must have your portability packet at the time of your interview. We will accept it by mail from your current Housing Authority or make an appointment for you to hand-carry it. If you hand-carry it, the original seal must not be broken or tampered with.

  • You must provide: Current proof of income (within 10 days) and valid California identification for all adults (18 years or older.)

Voucher Bedroom Size

  •  Voucher size may change or differ from what you currently have. You will receive one bedroom for the head of household (and spouse) and one additional bedroom for every additional two people.

Transferring Out

  • Participants with a voucher issued by Berkeley Housing Authority should check with your assigned Housing Authority Representative for eligibility requirements and information.  The forms below will need to be completed in order to request to port.

  • Interim Packet

  • Mutual Agreement for Termination  
  •  30-Day Notice To Terminate Lease/Tenancy
  •  Request for Transfer Voucher (Portability)  
  •   Port Supplemental Form
